In response to Porfirio Flores' letter about unprovoked dog attacks, carrying a big stick may not be enough.

I was attacked by a large dog a few months ago and do not think a big stick would have been enough.

Luckily, I carry pepper spray with me when I walk and I was able to access it and spray the dog in the eyes. I feel like the pepper spray saved me from serious injury or even my life.

I want to encourage anyone who walks or jogs to be cautious (regardless of the area of town you live in) and never go out without some serious means of self defense.

If you are attacked, you will realize how defenseless you are against an animal.
